Programs & Projects

Costa Rica is a top vacation destination for Americans because of its beauty, friendly people, and the relatively cheaper cost for a tropical destination.  Every tourist that comes here walks away learning the phrase “Pura Vida” which in Spanish means pure life.  As Christians we know living a pure life is more than having a vacation attitude, but rather a life lived abundantly through Christ. After witnessing the culture first hand, God opened our eyes to areas of hardship.  Beyond poverty and the lack of Christian engagement, the most troubling social issue is the perpetuating cycle of young people entering the sex trade industry.  Neighbors Outreach Worldwide Costa Rica aims to break this cycle by investing in mothers and children of this next generation, teaching them they are made for a purpose and in the image of God.

In Herradura, women and children experience:

Women: Prostitution is not only legal in Costa Rica, it is a legitimized business.   Finding work that is both honoring and sustainable is difficult.

Children: Herradura is a small community located outside of the major city. There is a major lack of educational resources and opportunities for children to succeed.

Our Mission

Discipleship

NOWCR organizes group gatherings to share the hope of Christ with the children and women of Herradura. In these classes, participants explore reproductive health education, the Bible and principles of Godly living. With the guidance of student leaders, younger children gain from local role models on how to resist temptations in their community.

Community Development

Herradura offers plenty of space and opportunities for outreach events. This neighborhood experiences a significant lack of gospel presence, with only one Catholic church and a rotating priest providing limited discipleship. Organizing regular field days for children allows them to stay active, connect with fellow Christian kids from Horizon Church, and be enriched by mission teams sharing the gospel.

Our Mission

Educational Opportunities

English classes are crucial for our students as they open up enhanced opportunities in the primary industry of our region: tourism. NOW Costa Rica also guarantees that students receive essential school supplies and tutoring required for academic success.
